Advertising Law Training

Most advertising law breaches stem from mistakes that could have been spotted at the first stage of the campaign idea. We give your marketing, communications and digital teams practical training on advertising claims, influencer collaborations, discount campaigns, prize draws and commercial messages, using examples from your own campaigns.

What does advertising law regulate?

Advertising law requires commercial advertising to be truthful, honest and not misleading, to be clearly recognisable as advertising, to make claims that can be substantiated, and for comparative advertising to meet certain conditions. The core rules are in Law No. 6502 on Consumer Protection and the Regulation on Commercial Advertising and Unfair Commercial Practices; certain sectors, such as food, cosmetics, health and finance, also have special rules.

Discount sales, prize draws and commercial electronic messages are subject to separate rules as well. Breaches can lead to suspension, correction and administrative fines imposed by the Advertising Board.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who should attend the training?

Everyone who produces or approves advertising and campaign content: marketing, brand management, digital marketing, social media and e-commerce teams. Having the agencies you work with attend is also useful for consistent practice.

Can the training be tailored to our sector?

Yes. Sectors such as food, cosmetics, health products and finance have rules in addition to the general advertising rules; the training content is prepared around those rules and Advertising Board decisions in the sector.

How often should the training be repeated?

Because of changes in teams and updates to the legislation, we recommend repeating it at least once a year. A short refresher session before major campaign periods is also effective.

What materials are delivered after the training?

The training presentation and a checklist for reviewing campaigns before publication. These materials can be used within the company and together with agencies.
